Evaluation and retrofit of a seismically-damaged historical masonry building: A case study of the parish church in Pokupsko, Croatia

Caroline Heitmann (EPFL)

This project focuses on the seismic analysis of a cultural heritage site damaged in the 2020 earthquakes in Croatia. First, observed damage is described and compared to typical out-of-plane mechanisms. Then, a finite element analysis is conducted, and modal and pushover analyses are carried out. The results form the basis of a discussion around necessary retrofitting measures, some of which are implemented in the finite element model to study their efficacy.

Analytical modelling and experimental vibration testing of a novel tuned-mass-damper on a scaled wind turbine

Mario Eugster & Janik Fürst (ETHZ)

The project aimed to create an analytical model of a scaled physical wind turbine and its damping units to analyze its dynamic behavior and tune a 3D-printed damper for multiple frequencies. To capture the dynamic behaviour of the turbine, a detailed model using the direct stiffness method (DSM) was created in MATLAB.
